Follow on Designs – Jet Jewellery

Follow on Designs – Jet Jewellery

After making the initial designs the next step was to perfect my making technique and play with new designs. As the photographs show above I designed and made x3 types of heart shapes, all a similar size but slightly different heart shapes.

The designs were all approx 20mm x20mm x 7mm, creating a good proportioned piece of jewellery. The finish was a high gloss effect finish, which did look effective, but a slightly less matt effect would probably have worked best.

I used a different hook connection to pass the silver chain through. I used an eye pin (glued into the jet) in conjunction with a 6mm open jump ring. Both were purchased from www.beadsjar.co.uk, with the eye pin costing £1.30 pk x50 and the jump rings costing £2.37 pk x10. This connection did seem to function properly and look effective, although I may return to the initial hook method.

I used the same silver chain as the initial designs, sterling silver 925 finish, although I used an 8 inch length (£6.20), which did sit better than the 10 inch used previously. This style of silver chain suited the jet best.

All the designs made look modern, stylish and would suit the 25+ female audiences I was targeting. The material costs were similar to the initial design and I would set the selling price as the previous (£28.00), giving a reasonable profit margin.

I am extremely happy with this development jewellery and it has given me insight into the design of my main final design. I have discovered the intended silver chain to use, the connection required to thread the chain through, suitable packaging and the desired matt finish effect, ideal jewellery size and the costing is acceptable, although this would need refining.
