Future Progression – Jet Jewellery

Taking the project further for future progression, I have designed and made a set of jet earrings, as shown above.

The earrings have been made to the same processes as earlier with a handmade silver wire hook attaching the jet to the fish hook earrings. The sterling silver 925 finish fish hook earrings were purchased from www.beadmonster.co.uk for £2.50 per pair. I could have bought similar earrings from www.beadshopleeds.com, pk x10 at £1.20, but these looked inferior quality.

The earrings were made to the following dimensions 25mm x8mm x3mm, which I thought looked a perfect size, suiting the simplistic design. The surface of the earrings was sanded to a matt effect which looked stunning. These were very quick to make, approx 30 minutes, with the silver fish hooks complimenting the matt black finish of the jet.

The cost to make the earrings is as follows:

£2.50 pair fish hook earrings + £5.00 labour costs = approx £7.50 make.

Retail price would be £12.00 pair, giving approx 40% margin.

I believe this is a competitive price to sell at, although future progression would be to source cheaper fish hook earrings.

The earrings complement the family of pendants previous designed and made and give the audience more choice. Again they are targeted at a 25+ female audience, low/ middle value market.

Different sizes and shapes can be developed in the future and an extensive product range could be created. The smooth curves and simple design promote this product, which comes back to the early research carried out.

I believe the earrings designed are fully functional, made to a good standard at a sensible retail price and could be sold via the MMU Originals site.
